Medium-sized manufacturing companies are facing new challenges in the context of Industry 4.0. This project focuses on the development of integrated automation solutions for flexible machinery designed to handle high product variability and small batch sizes – key requirements of digital transformation. New robotics concepts are being developed to better integrate conventional industrial robots into the overall automation system. A central element of this innovation is the creation of a digital twin derived directly from the machine’s 3D design. This digital twin enables complete virtual commissioning before the physical machine is built. The approach unlocks significant potential – both in optimizing internal development processes and in involving customers early in the project. It even allows for training and onboarding on the virtual machine itself.

This project focuses on the development of object-oriented software modules to enable more efficient engineering of large-scale process plants. These modules will be integrated into SEITEC’s proprietary software library. A key focus is the creation of intuitive graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for plant operation and monitoring, based on the latest findings in UI design. In addition, a simulation system is being developed to test this type of plant entirely in a virtual environment before construction begins. This approach significantly reduces commissioning times and minimizes potential sources of error.

As a driver of digital transformation for customers in mechanical and plant engineering, in manufacturing companies, and within research and development projects, SEITEC is increasingly undergoing a transformation of its own business model – evolving from a solution provider to a product and platform provider. The development of innovative software solutions and architectures in the areas of IoT, cloud, and edge computing – in particular the software products for data-driven process optimization MaintApp and DataIndustryApp – requires the establishment of suitable marketing and sales structures to ensure accessibility for potential end customers. A marketing mix of traditional and modern strategies is planned to support this effort, with a strong focus on online marketing. The creation of a new organizational structure and a dedicated position in marketing and sales for software products will support this strategic development.
